Insomniac's- Whats it like?

I kinda want to become an insomniac, just to be able to be up for so much longer during the day. Does anyone have any experience with this, that they can share?
Whats it like? How much sleep do you really get? how do you function on it?
What CAUSED it?

it sucks yetti bawlsak! go to bed at 3 or 4 , wait a while to fall asleep, wake up a few times in the night(well morning), get up. it sucks ass. i can take 4 ambiens and still not fall asleep and i save my temazapam for the day cuz i have bad anxiety and try to only take benzos once a week or so. melatonin doesnt work either. the only thng that helps is a good indica and i havent even had weed in a few weeks. ive just slowly been smoking all my hash(and theyre all pure sativa so they dont help me sleep)
i can still function cuz im not physically tired but after about 2 days of not an hour of sleep(happens sometimes, not everyday) my mind starts to get tired and i feel confused. thats the best way i can describe it

I usually get into bed around 1:30 or 2. Don't sleep till 3:30.
My alarm is set for 9, I'll wake up at 7 and again at 8:30. If something wakes me up around 4 or 5, I'll be up till around 7.
Its a bad cycle because when I can't get good sleep at night I end up taking a nap around 8 at night, which probably is the cause of my not being able to sleep.
chicken and egg type thing.

I used to go to bed at 10:30 and lay there until about 3:30 and not sleep. It was not fun. Alcohol helped, cannabis helped. I still get insomnia.

Do any of you know what caused it? Do bad days make it harder to sleep?

It's terrible, it's not that you don't want to sleep, you just can't. You shouldn't think of more time during the day as a positive thing as you'll be drowsy and just want to pass out. As one of the posters above said, melatonin doesn't work for shit, neither do most sleeping aids and the ones that do leave you feeling like shit the next day.
What I was doing was going to sleep at 3-4 and waking up two hours later to get ready for school and I'd come home from school thinking I'd get some sleep being tired all day but nah, I'd just stay up until 3-4 again and repeat that every day.
Weed helps though.

what caused insomnia for me was depending on alcohol and depressants to sleep. I fucking hate tossing and turning...or barely about to go to sleep when just the slightest wind sound against the window has me waking up speaking in tongue (it's windy in albuquerque. i take 1 tab melatonin and 1 tab unisom (doxylamine) and all it does is make me drowsy and fall asleep for 2 hours before i wake up thirsty and not able to get back to bed till like 6am.
But when I dust a fifth and take on tab unisom I wake up well rested in the morn (about 1pm).

I used to have really bad insomnia do to withdrawing. Used to stay up 3-4 days at a time because i'd either be high or fiending for the high. Not the greatest thing you could do to your body. i was gonna make a horror film on insomnia a couple years ago for school but it never happened.

Yes! This is my exact problem! I thought I was the only one. I spend hours finding the right position, comfort, blanket cover, etc. I just can't sleep because I keep tossing and turning.
Also, sometimes I have something on my mind forever and I can't let the thought go, it lingers and takes me over. I can't drop the thoughts long enough to catch some sleep.

I'm the same way which is why I got a job working 11pm-7:30 am it has helped a lot.

Never wish you were an insomniac. I was one for about 10-12 years and somehow snapped out of it. It sucks ass.
That's my input on the subject for right now.

It's the worse thing ever. I go to bed at roughly 6-7am every day. On good days even. Wake up around 10-11 and be at work my noon.
My life has been ruled by my insane sleep since i was a kid. It's fuckin' hell dude. Staying up for 2-3 days straight, not even on drugs, just fucked up mental shit.
Even now, I'll get so bad I'll stay up for a day or two, During which Time i'm a full danger to myself in others, more so considering the industrial work i do. Just delirious as all get out.
terrible shit. Dont eve wish it upon yourself. I've never in my life known a regular sleep schedule. The idea that others can fall asleep every night at like 10-12am is baffling to me.

I usually start to feel like i'm losing my mind after i stay up for like a day and a half. used to be able to stay up for 4-5 days before that feeling came on. Insomnia is a horrible thing, i'm very thankful for the 12-15 hours of sleep my body gives me now.
