is 24 hour light good to initiate pinning?

I know this is too much once the pins have started. Will most likely switch to a 12/12 then, but to initiate pinning it it beneficial to have constant light? Also which turn into pins, the mycelium spikes or the little white bumps on the tightened mycelium because I have both on a cake and spikes on a casing?

light should be 12/12 cycle to initiate and can be cut down to say 2 hours of light a day when pins actually show thru. since the mush do more work/growth in the dark.

do you think this could be the cause for delayed pinning? also do you know the mycelium answer?

well it probably needs a dark period is just important as the light. Dont know what your asking about mycellium. Just do 12/12 to u see pins then cut it down.

im no mycologist but 24 7 light is dumb mushrooms grow in areas that have about 12 hours light 12 hours dark so youd think when you make a artificial area for them to grow in youd want to somewhat simulate that enivronment of course that could delay the pinning

Oh look, lighting is covered in the faq:
http://shroomery.org/faq/faq.php?display=faq&nr=135&catnr=14&prog=1&lang=en
A little light is fine. A lot of light is fine. Mushrooms just want to know which way the open air is, so they can release their spores to the wind.

yeah becasue I'm not sure how important the amount of light is.I agree with Powerandpill, the light is merely to provide which direction to go but I figure better to not overdo it. Still does anyone know if the mycelium spikes turn to pins or if it's the little white bumps on the tightened myclium (hypahl knots?).

Light is simply a way of letting the mycelium know it can begin fruiting. It really does nothing when it comes to the direction of the fruitbodies, that is due to gravity (So I learned while reading the forum). The hyphal knots should form primordia...

To answer your OTHER question....the "spikey" mycelial growth entangles in itself to form the hyphal knots, which in turn create pins that grow into your mushies.

the light helps keep the temp. It's just christams lights so I'm not worried about elec. so if it doesn't hurt then good stuff.

Interesting....I'm gonna have to look for that picture now. Was it in one of the forums, or on the actual site?
