    #11153040 - 09/29/09 08:16 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

that water we soak our grains in has to be full of nutrients..

what if we boil that and use it for an LC..

anyone??

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

Seems silly to bother when honey/karo is so cheap.

Also that water has more than nutrients in it-many contams also.  Much easier to start with karo/water that has far less contams to start with.

if i boil it the contams are gone..

there are no endospores to worry about, so a good boil will sterilize it.

and its free if im soaking my grain

there is actually a tek on this on shroomtalk... I am using it and it actually works wonderful.  I think I got nice colonization after 3 days.  I used 100ml rye water, 100 ml of tap water, and 2 teaspoons of honey.  I think I should have used 2 tablespoons of honey but it still colonized.

I payed around $3 for a small bottle of karo syrup.  That bottle can probably do around 10 quarts of lc and give an absolute clear view of any growth.  Very cheap for it's benefits.

the question is not price, just will it work and is it a viable option

look here

thats the grain water from simmering

it has started to seperate..

this is FULL of nutes for an LC or agar..

its sterile because I boiled it.. i could PC it i guess, but i figure if im gonna make an LC or agar, it will get sterilized then as well..

dont know what to do with it, im gonna let it separate ..

I read this post as another "I am broke, can I save money by doing X".  Seems fairly reasonable that it will work.  Good luck and let us know.

Too dense, you'll want to thin that down a bit. A lot, probably. Experiment.
