fruiting wbs jars, whats the best way?
    #11078618 - 09/17/09 06:00 PM (14 years, 6 months ago)

I think some of my wbs jars will be ready in a few days to a week, and I am wondering what is the best way to fruit them, without using the bulk/straw method?  Can I case them like normal?

You dont need to case it.

Spawning to bulk is the best way to go and then if you feel you need a casing layer then add one.

But you dont want to just use the spawn on its own, you wont get nearly out of it as you should.

I think most people like to go with horse poo but if you cant get that coir is prolly your second bet.

you may mix with 50% field capacity vermiculite in a tray. cover, let recolonize, then case and place in a FC.

its not quite bulk, but will yeild better due to moisture replenishment.
its called the 'rez-effect'

Well, I was trying to stay away from the "bulk" method for now.

And as for mixing it, can I mix it in a vmc/brf substrate, or just mix w/ vmc and then case like a cake?

mix it with sterilised feild capacity verm at a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio.

casing isnt nessesary if you maintain proper fruiting conditions.

the verm will hold more than enough moisture for fruiting, a casing layer wont really benifit unless your fruiting conditions are sub par.

I dont, never fucked me up yet. Just a hassle plus waste of energy when you dont need to. Pasturise would be better but i personally wouldnt bother.

Just a bit prangy to PC verm for 60 mins or more

you dont need to sterilize it. vermiculite is naturally sterile from the process it is formed.

Yeah, its funny you brought up the oven, because thats what I was thinking of doing instead of a PC.

Also,  about how long does it seem the wbs jars have until I can fruit them?

i have 26 qts of wbs spawn.  Been in the fridge for 2 weeks waiting till i can spawn them to bulk.  Throw them in the fridge and you can store them for a period of time.
