Vermiculite Layer Colonizing
    #1104229 - 12/02/02 02:20 PM (21 years, 3 months ago)

The dry vermiculite layer is colonizing on some jars somewhere in a far off land. I dont know why. Does this have to be scraped off or anything when birthed? Or it doesnt matter much cause that side will be on the bottom?

Peace.

thats completely normal and a sign of healthy mycelium growth.

Like thisone said, colonization of the verm barrier is nothing more than a sign of happy, healthy mycelium. When you birth the cake just gently remove the uncolonized verm. I place the cake in the terrarium verm side up - the verm acts like a mini casing layer that helps to retain moisture.
