All of the pictures I took before today were on a Cell phone. I am not used to a good camera.
ID, Criticize, praise, do what you want.

I'd say they came out decent, you might need to play with the focus just a little more but still very nice.

Yea I noticed the same thing, the focus thing is kicking my ass. Especially with the angles I try to get.

Yeah most of my pictures I took that I ever posted on here were with a cheap camera and they still came out nice largely due to focus and the distance at where you took them. Even though you want close up shots still hold the camera a few inches away from the mushroom.

I got a question, is that a digital camera?
If so, this helped me out a lot. http://www.mushroomexpert.com/kuo_07.html
Also, koraks page is nice to get to know why the camera works, and not just knowing that it does work

Overall very good pics I'd say. many fall into the macro trap and never take a shot more than 2 inches from the mushroom and while useful for id and study they don't tell much of a story. I like the way most of your pics have foliage and other habitat to liven up the images.
only technical issue I see is the pics seem kind of yellow hued...is that just setting sun or maybe there is a color setting that needs to be adjusted?
Keep up the good work! Nice selection of mushrooms btw

That's a pretty good start, justin There's a few things you might want to consider that could help boost the quality of your pics even further: - Make sure you get the focus absolutely right. Especially with cameras that allow for a short depth of field, this is paramount in getting good sharpness on your subject. Especially in macro work, this is a bit of a hassle and often requires some fiddling around with the camera and a few tries to get it right, especially in the beginning. - Keep exposure times as short as possible and use a tripod or flash to prevent motion blur. This is not much of an issue in your pics, but some look like they could've been just a tad sharper still. - I agree with thetonebone that the 'wider' compositions, allowing more habitat into the picture, are usually more appealing. However, composition is one of the (if not: _the_) most difficult things to get 'right' in photography and everyone will develop his or her own style in this respect. In any case, choose very carefully and deliberately how you composition a picture: where you put the subject, what objects you will/won't allow in the frame, what perspective best fits the composition, etc. Right now, most of your images are suspended somewhere between real close-ups and wider contextual shots. Also, placing the subject centrally in the image works in some cases, but very often it's a good idea to play around with the rule of thirds or some other off-center paradigm.
Good luck and have fun!
