Is this piss or contamination? *DELETED*

Post deleted by Lilith0Belial

Reason for deletion: It was neither metabolites or contaminants...what ever it was, it was nothing serious.

It's not piss.

what is it then?...btw, honestly, i'm kinda suspicious of the vermiculite, I think it kinda happens only when the mycelium try to assimilate some of those big chunks of verm instead of just covering it, what do you think?

Hopefully, you haven't been urinating into your jars.

Since that's settled, it seems to be some bacteria contamination at work.  Next time, remove the foil as soon as you remove the jars from sterilization.  The foil causes the verm filter to get damp, and damp verm contaminates very easily and conducts it to the rice flour below.

I havent dared to call it piss once since I read a post by you going berserk over how its called metabolites and not mycelium piss

I agree on bacteria. All of my first jars got this, because the substrate was way too wet. 3 of them got really bad, but in 2 the mycelium grew a little stronger over 2-3 weeks and was at a total halt for 2 weeks. I birthed them under running sink water and washed everything that wasnt white off. Those two cakes finished their first flush last night, and I have colonized 7 more jars with the mycelium from them.

So in my opinion, put them aside and see how it goes

Hmm I see, the mycelim keeps on growing, though. It's actually starting to build up those mycelium clusters, good sign? I'll try the Klingon's suggestion and see if I can wash off the not-white portions of the cake. BTW, we removed the alufoil layer after sterilization just so they could cool faster. Thanks.

Then why is it on the contaminated jars above?  You're supposed to remove the foil after sterilization and keep it off.

Well, I put it back on afterwards, they are not on tight, though. It doesn't behave like any pathogen I've read before, neither bacterial or fungal, viral unlikely, since mycelium tend to avoid them rather than grow towards them. TBH, I don't think they're contaminated, and I don't think they are metabolites, they are probably remnants of some kind of oxidation rx between the mycelium and certain minerals that the verm is composed of, since I took one grain of verm from the cake filter and checked in on one of my school lab microscopes and it kinda looked "rusted", hence the rust like pigment that appears on certain extensions of the mycelium that try to assimilate some expanded verm particles. Just a theory. What do you think?
