Question for Kombucha Experts

After many weeks, my brew tastes and smells like kombucha, it has translucent threads floating around like kombucha, but it's never formed the disc.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for reading.

I'm not sure what gt liquid is.
My original bottle of kombucha had cobweb-like threads floating in it. I understand this is the mother.
I poured this into sugared Oolong. More threads grew, but the disc never formed.

well u say bottle so i guess you bought kombucha beverage and tried to grow it from that. i tried that and it took more than 3 months to form a disk. your best bet is to buy a mother off ebay.

I'm unclear on your terminology.
People who make vinegars call the debris in the solution the mother.
When we're talking about kombucha, the disc is the mother?

And, yes, I poured a beverage into a crock of Oolong and blonde sugar.
"Gt's Organic Raw Kombucha."
Provided that it's still showing signs of life, you're saying that the long wait for a disc is normal?

Yes that exactly what im saying. Took me 3 months for a disk like 2mm thick. And it didnt taste as good as just getting a thick 1 inch mother off ebay.

I can imagine a situation where larger mothers produce more babies, quicker.
Thanks for your advice.

I've been squeamish about overfeeding it, because I hear this leads to mold infections.
I taste (with a clean spoon), to see whether it is watered down, sweet, alcoholic, or vinegary.
I added sugar and tea, little by little, and my SCOBY disc / mother just appeared, after several months.

Dont worry about to much sugar leading to mold. If you have some strong stuff just add a cup or so to your batch it will make the ph higher and inhibit mold. Iv never gotten mold attacks before and I dont know how to either. The kombucha is just to high ph for that stuff to grow plus the micro organisms will do battle with anything attempting to grow. So as long as you got a little kombucha juice in there to fight things off I wouldnt worry about mold.

I never consciously realized that I had stomach upset but felt very settled after talking live cultures.
Alternative medicine blames alot of conditions on systemic inflammation, making me suspect that some of the miracle claims may be truth.

For me kombucha never did much cause i was already healthy. I enjoy making it, and making it taste the best. It did make me poop though.
