FL Orange/Red Mushroom ID
    #10912339 - 08/22/09 01:36 PM (14 years, 7 months ago)

Found this fallen oak branch about 15 inches long in a sink hole like area in a cow pasture under oak cover.  Central FL area.

This branch had the most growing on it, but there were maybe a half dozen other small patches of the mushroom growing in the area.

These were found on the opposite side of the branch.  I'm assuming they are the same species, just dried out more?

A spore print would help. I think it's a gymnopilus species, but I'd like to see the rust colored spore print.

They are in the genus Gymnopilus.

They probably taste bitter and smell slightly like anise.

Does it have green stains anywhere on it, especially near the stem base and on pins?

If so, yes.  If not, maybe.
