 My old employer is appealing my unemployment claim

I was fired for picking a pallet with 50 boxes on it because their system gave me credit for picking each box and they considered it cheating.
I got my unemployment and have been collecting for over a month.
Then today I get a ltter saying that my old employer is appealing the decesion.
Do employers normally do this?
How do these things usually turn out?

If you were fired for cause, and it sounds like you were, then you are not entitled to unemployment. I challenged it a couple of times when I fired somebody for chronic absenteeism. Kicked their ass, too.
It is important to understand that your employer pays for unemployment insurance for all of his employees based on his history of layoffs. The rate goes up if he regularly lays people off who then collect. If he never lays anyone off it can get quite low. This is not a zero sum game for him. Your claim costs him money and will for some time to come when his rate changes.

Do you work in a warehouse with picking lanes? If that's the case, I understand where you're coming from... you got credit for throwing 50 boxes of one bulk item where you didn't actually have to throw anything whereas usually having to pick 50 boxes might consist of having to stack 50 different items? And thus made your rate for the day look a little too good. I don't know what the rules are where you work, but at the place I work it's just considered par for the course, something you get now and then to make up for the next time when you get a really shitty order to pull.

I did. Yes.
About this picking stuff. I had a warehouse job where I picked boxes from pallets and placed them in a cart, and then I would drop the cart off in an area and pick up another. I came across a pick that had 50 boxes, that I had to pick, and they were all on the same pallet. Instead of picking each box individually, I took the whole pallet that the 50 boxes were on, and I dropped it off and grabbed a cart. The system gave me like 30 seconds for picking each box. So 30 seconds multiplied by 50 boxes = 25 minutes...but it really only took me a few minutes. I was trying to be productive and save my energy, but since I got bonuses based on how fast I worked, they fired me and said that I was cheating.

Also, this was for a big name employer that has had atemps to unionize.
The training was horrible though, and they said to always try and be productive.

Sounds like you were thinking outside the box (no pun intended) in an organization of asshats. I hope your unemployment doesn't get denied and these clowns have to pay for running a fucked up system.

I don't fully understand the situation, but don't let them push you around. Justified or not, they're just trying to cut costs and don't really care about the truth.
