bah...do catfish have feelings too?

I did a little fishing for the first time in years, and caught one within seconds...when I pulled the fish up it was all like "ERRRAAA!!!!...ERRRAAAAA!!!!!...EEERHGGHGHRRAAA!!!'" like it was suffering...so then I did what ya do, and put it in the ice chest, as is...and I'm just wondering...WTF?...does it suffer while it's freezing to death? or does it just go numb? Does it have thoughts and feelings? I don't know how to say what I'm trying to say...I mean catfish seem more alive than the average fish, they bleed a lot, they make weird noises...I'm not a stranger to the concept of death, and life having to feed on itself to exist...I wouldn't feel so weird about it if I just blew it's brains out or chopped it's head off. Maybe it's the whiskers, and the sounds of agony...sigh...
What are your thoughts?

I don't think they suffer like people do. But what do I know.
My uncle used to know a guy that would bring a baseball bat with him on the boat when they went fishing. He said every time the guy caught a catfish he would smack it off the boat like a fucking baseball. Some people are whack.

canal in my backyard...worms
idk...most fish seem to have mouths that are almost meant to be hooked, and this blue channel catfish is a lot meatier in the mouth area, and they sometimes bleed a lot compared to other fish
so when fish freeze in an ice chest...they just sorta go numb until they aren't alive anymore?

haha I know they're good eatin...I'm looking forward to it
hahaha "he is just barkin at ya"
It's the transition from the point of being hooked till the point of no longer being alive i am mostly wondering about.
I don't know, I guess nature has a fair mix of animals that get killed instantly by their predators and those that dont. I THINK. I know a lot of them are killed instantly and don't suffer though. I dunno just a curiosity

Lots of fish are eaten alive by other fish They either suffocate in the stomach or dissolve.
I think freezing then having your head cut off is easier.

Yes I would imagine they just go dormant ,like any other time they get that cold.
Canal....like irrigation or natural......these fish love shad and herring for bait......I used to catch some pretty big ones in the river ,the big ones are not as tasty as the smaller ones ,1 to 5 pounds is just about right fer eatin.
If you want to catch the bigger ones step up to a 6/0 to 9/0 hook and about a 6 inch piece of bait fish...bluegill will work too as bait.
Here is exactly where I used to fish and what comes out of there........
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7978360/
I have only seen and caught them up to about 50 pounds......

Yeah dude seriously, if you are going to fish (especially catfish) then you need to realize your eating animals and YOU are cutting them up. YOU are killing them, and to honor their death you eat it. This is nature's way. This isn't cruel, plenty of wild animals torture their prey before they kill them, but some also insta kill them.
The catfish feel pain, yes. But the barking is definitely common. I remember as a child my dad threw a catfish at my face and it barked right at me and I fell off the beat into the water good times.
I miss my parent's a lot. But they won't even answer my phone calls
I won't ever see my parents again... sucks

Yeah most fish don't. But they catfish in particular like to make a loud barkish noise. It's rather hilarious when I think back on it.

I said in the first post I am no stranger to the concept of death.
"Climbing the stars, into the midnight hour, the serpent is eating itself"
one of the most beautiful things a person can experience is to see that this is the only way existence can exist.
I am the person who has a smile to comfort people when everybody else is crying at a death in the family.

I'm not aware of very many predators that 'insta kill' their prey. Most prey/predator encounters involve a long, slow, painful death, most of the time the prey is eaten while it still lives. Then other time, in the case of insects/bugs, the predatory encounter is positively morbid.
Being hauled out of the water by the mouth then hypothermia-ed into a coma is not a bad death. Neither is being shot, not compared to being eaten alive by a pack of wolves.
