Art for money, yay or nay? A lady offered me money in return for a painting of a lighthouse. I can't decide.

You mean own this lighthouse painting or you would paint it yourself?

And how much money? "Art for money" is a good description of what I want to do with the rest of my life... but one of the things they tell you in school is that most people, like the aunt coming to you and wanting to pay you for a portrait of her doggie, really have no idea how long a good painting takes and what your time is worth. And what seems like a generous price to them turns out to be less than minimum wage, just considering the time you spent doing it.

I'd have to paint it from fresh. It'd be a different story if she was interested in something I already did, maybe. I think she said $100, but I don't really remember. She wants a painting, like 1'x2' minimum. I'll probably end up doing it, just cause I need the money. =/

Paint a $300 lighthouse. Seriously, it will be a good exercise for your career. You can come down on the price a little if necessary but try for $300 at least (before you paint it). You will probably end up spending more time on it than the $300 will cover anyway.

I'd do it if I could paint, and if the price was right.

$100 for a 1'x2' painting that doesnt sound like too bad of a deal, but I dont paint, so I wouldnt truely know.

Just be sure to get a quality scan of it for your own personal collection/portfolio. I wouldnt want to spend 4 - 6 hours painting or drawing something and then sell it, never to be able to view it again.
