I don't know about doomed.  At the very least you are going to come home to some totally sporulated mushrooms.  Possibly slimy and disintegrating, or even worse.

Harvest everything the day before you go, pins, half-mature fruits, everything.  Dunk and set it for the next flush.  You could still come home to over-mature fruits but at least you'll get the one (half) flush off of it.

Agreed, if you can't find someone you trust to harvest for you, then take what you can and hope for the best on 2nd flush while you're away.

What about sealing the tub up and putting it in a cleaned with bleach fridge?  This will halt growth I think.  I honestly haven't heard of people putting pinning substrates in cold, so if someone with more knowledge would care to comment that would be great.  I am curious myself.

That's assuming his tub will fit in the refrigerator. Most monotubs I've seen wouldn't fit in most people's fridges.

I guess the monotubs I make tend to be smaller than most.  Can you stall pinning substrates with cold or not?

If I knew I would have commented with an answer, but I'm curious to know. It would seem to make sense since the cold generally slows down biological processes, but I'd rather hear it from a TC than assume.

The bigger issue as I see it is that refrigerators aren't normally the cleanest places in the house. Then there's how to keep up rh, fae, and light cycles inside a functioning fridge.

It seems like just cutting his losses and harvesting early would be the most sensible plan regardless of the answer.

Would you have to keep FAE, light, and humidity up in a cold climate?  I would assume that if most of the biological processes of the mycelium were stalled, most requirements like FAE, light, and humidity may not be required?  I can see light possibly being a requirement in cold temperatures, but I don't know about humidity and FAE.  I don't think humidity to the point of saturation would be possible in a fridge anyway.

Hmmm...
