Stealth Grow

Im doing a stealth grow with a floro light and need to know when in the growth cycle I should turn the light on and how long each day I should keep the light on. Im also putting printer paper over the light to dim it. The light wont get hot enough to burn the paper though. Im doing 14 PF style cakes in Jars right now and just need this piece of info to help me along my way.

You can do 12 on 12 off, if you have a clear terrarium and its in the open, the ambient light will be enough.

Im growing in a box where the light is pretty close to the jars but light still hits all of them. 12/12 is enough? and what period in the growing cylce should i turn it on. Right after innoculation? or when the first signs of mycelium show?

you don't even need the light.  1 half milisecond is all it takes to initialize pinning, and some people have had success with no light whatsoever.  mushrooms only need the light to direct them as to which way to grow.

but if you feel you should use the light anyways, go for 12/12, try to mimic nature as best as you can :smile:

no light whatsoever until you want to initialize pinning (read the FAQ).

You actually want to keep them in the dark until 100% colonization, so not to pin before completely colonized. That could be bad. Also 1 half milisecond of light never worked for me if I wanted my shrooms to be more than an inch or two tall before the veil broke.

light does tell it to initiate pinning, but you could do that other ways, and therefore don't NECESSARILY need light, but doin something to the Co2 content, raising it or lowerin it, I can't remember, and the cold shock will also help to initiate pinning. But light let's it know it's reached the top of the dirt mound in nature so it knows to start spittin out lil babies.

very true. light isn't neccesary. if the jars are still in the incubation period though, they should be exposed to no light at all.

i have read about 100 different studies involving light. they range from 1 hour of light every other day to light 24 hours a day. everyone has their preferences, and there has not been anything to prove how much light is the best way to go. so play around and find what you works the best for you.
