Putting jars in the fridge
    #1072999 - 11/21/02 06:53 AM (21 years, 3 months ago)

Me and a buddy have two fully colonized pint jars of the orisis strain and we put them in the fridge because we have to wait for our horse poo to dry out. The cakes have turned slightly blue in the fridge. Is this good or bad?

Why 24 hours? I've stored jars in the fridge for weeks before fruiting.

hi!
when the mycelium stains blue it is indeed "normal". It just means that the Psilocybin is somehow metabolized.Putting te jars in da fridge also is cold-shocking, so the resulting pinning might be even better than without coldshocking.

Keep them dark , like in a box that is wrapped up so no light can enter . They can be stored this way for months , just give them 24 -36 hours to recover and reclimatize before you inoc your poop with them .
Good Luck

Really? Where?

>and the FAQ says 24 hours
This being said for dunnking, yes.

But if you want to store jars in the fridge, you can do so for several months.

Question: What is "cold shocking"?
Answer: Exposing the cakes or casings to cold temperatures for around 24 hours is supposed to trigger pinning. The opinions whether it is needed withP. cubensisor not vary, but so far it?s not known that it would do any harm doing so.
It seems to be beneficial with some strains which don?t form pins easily. Make sure that you wrap the cakes or casings well before putting them into the fridge, since the fridge is often not the cleanest place in terms of mushroom cultivation.

I have been told that you must cold shock the Mexicana A strain for a couple of weeks before you can get it to fruit. I think the 24 hour limit is only in place when dunking rather than cold shocking.

For the pupose of "cold shocking" to initiate pinning ......exposing to low temps for 24 - 48 hours is more than enough . If you leave in cold to long they will go into a hibernative state , this hibernative state is good for "storage " . Cold shocking is to "trick" the mycelium into believing unfavorable weather conditions for fruiting is coming , so now we (the mycelium) need to fruit soon to make spores for next season . The spores than lay in wait for the warmer seasons to germinate . This is the life cycle of the mush .
Dunking time is so you do not drown the mycelium in water for to long , which can harm myc .
