Wilco.

Saw Wilco last night, probably my tenth time seeing them. If you have a chance to catch them on this current tour, run, don't walk, to get yourself some good tickets...Nils is out of control on the guitar - a walking, breathing guitar god that in my mind is up there in the Pantheon of great axemen. Tweedy's lyrics and delivery are a thing all their own and the band is just incredibly tight. If a foreigner asked me what American music was, I'd play him Wilco.

It was a minor league baseball stadium. Beautiful spot, I'd previously seen Phish there twice, Bjork once, and Daft Punk once. It's right by the beach on Coney Island, beautiful breezes all night whipping the smoke of our joints around our faces.
This was the only stop on the tour without Conor opening, we had Yo La Tengo instead, which to me was a fantastic substitution.

Mm. A newcomer! To me, Wilco isn't a singles band so much as an album band. Each of their albums means so much to me and seems to speak to different times in my life.
Sky Blue Sky = !

Feist, who lives in Brooklyn, came out on stage to sing You & I off the new record with them...it was tear-jerkingly beautiful. Ed from Grizzly Bear came out for a couple of songs as well, and for Spiders (Kidsmoke) it was Wilco, all of Yo La Tengo, Ed from Grizzly Bear, and Feist, all together.

They are definitely, in my not so humble opinion, one of the best touring bands today.

It's really subtle and understated...I actually know the lighting guy through my roommate, we were talking to him about it last night. He just sets the tone, it's not a Phish light show, you know? The music is the focus.

Right.
They will probably step it up as they get bigger and bigger.
They need more high-schooler support to pay the bills.

Unfortunately, things have changed since the last time I saw Wilco...they seem to have, between Sky Blue Sky and Wilco (The Album), attracted a ton of fratboy fans...maybe that was just the show I was at...I had to move to new spots a couple of times but once I got closer to the front I was surrounded by people who didn't want to yell TWEEDY and chug beer so much as they wanted to enjoy the spectacular show they were privy to see.
Novum - I love the new record...I think it is really lighthearted in comparison to both A Ghost is Born and Sky Blue Sky...the fact that Wilco (The Album) kicks off with Wilco (The Song), the chorus of which is "Wilco...Wilco...will love you, baby" shows Tweedy settling into his sense of humor...and Nils...holy fucking shit dude. The guitar work is insane.
