This thread was moved from Mushroom Cultivation.

This thread was moved from Mushroom Hunting and Identification.
Reason: Off topic in cultivation.
They'll probably ask for more info. Read the forum guidelines in the hunting forum and add the missing info for best ID. RR

I'm not sure, but just remember DO NOT EAT THAT MUSHROOM UNTIL YOU ARE 100% POSITIVELY SURE IT IS EDIBLE. EATING THE WRONG MUSHROOM COULD RESULT IN DEATH.
I dont know what species it is but I wouldn't eat it just because of those white gills

I'd say they're Amanita amerimuscaria of the yellow variety. Not positive though.

Neither, the drugs in Amanita amerimuscaria are deleriants.

I am 90% sure that its Amanita amerimuscaria, and I don't know of any toxic ones that look like that.
I don't think that 90% is enough though so I wouldn't recommend eating it.
The muscimol in Amanita muscaria will not give you the fun high you seek, you will need to find some psilocybin containing mushrooms.

very helpful (:
so, would you be able to give me a few ideas as to what kind of places psilocybin mushrooms like to grow? i live in the northeast near the coast, up in nh next to vt, and i've found a lot of mushrooms just growing randomly but from what i understand it's very hard to tell the psilocybin mushrooms from the deadly lookalikes. i may have worded that wrong bear with me!
and if you're wondering "why me" i'm only questioning you about these things because you seem to be the most helpful with my questions. i do appreciate your help

Google all the names of the mushrooms listed for your area and search the hunting forum for them.
These ones grow everywhere

Its hard for someone who hasn't done much mushroom ID to tell psilocybin mushrooms from the deadly lookalikes. I can usually tell them apart while driving on the freeway at 75 mph.
Before I found the shroomery 2 years ago it took me 30 minutes to ID each mushroom.

http://www.mushroomexpert.com/amanita_muscaria_formosa.html
"The Yellow-orange Fly Agaric is a very common late summer and fall mushroom in the Northeast. Although it is not deadly, it should not be eaten because it contains toxic compounds that may cause sweating, deep sleep, and disorientation." [Audubon, 1992]
Basically that mushroom is an easy way for you to get food poisoning; throw it away. In addition, as others have said, never eat random mushrooms. Post them here and get a positive identification.
That mushroom happens to be in the same genus (Amanita) as the deadly ones. Amanitas account for 90% of mushroom deaths [Audubon, 1992]

Amanita muscaria var. formosa is an obsolete European variation.
You have found Amanita amerimuscaria f. "xanthous"
Check my journal for tips on ingesting this species.
