Bags in a Incubator
    #1064392 - 11/18/02 10:22 PM (21 years, 4 months ago)

After researching the best ways to colonize the bags..it seems that the incubator is quite effective and fairly cheap way of doing this. My questions are:

1) is the incubator a good place to store that bags when they begin to fruit, if i was to lower the temp?
2) is attaching a grow light to the lid of the incubator (w/ a timer) a good idea?
-if these are not good ideas, what are btter substitutes???

1. I guess if you wanted to fruting temps are around 70-75 degrees so i dont think you would need a incubator.

2. a grow light is not a good idea. This is because mycliuem likes to colonize in a dark place and the introduction of light is one of the things that triggers pinning.

nope, incubation chambers are only for colonizating of the substrate, not fruiting. mycelium colonizes fastest at 86F, but does not fruit well at 86f.. it fruits best between 74-78F. An Incubation chamber only benifits you with faster colonization times, which helps stop contams.. but that's it. fruitng is to be done in a seperate chamber. if you wanted to fruit and incubate in the same chamber it would fuck everything up, an incubating bag or jar is not susposed to get any light whatsoever, but a casing that you want to start fruiting needs light. see what i'm saying?

any more questions just pm me.

If your house is too cool for proper fruiting then do what I do and put your grow chamber right on top of your incubator. For me it keeps things at a nice 74 degrees.

get a little 4watt wall plug in night light and put it on a timer. If you have an old string of x-mas lights, cut it down to one bulb and re wire it.

An 'incubator'  without a heater, and with a light, would be a fruiting chamber.
So yes,  you can convert an incubator to a fruiting chamber.
