The many faces of mycelium

I guys, what are the different colors for mycelium that is acceptable? The reason I ask is because I have 4 jars that are almost 100% colonized but the top part of the jar (just before reaching the dry verm barrier) is of a blueish tone turning to grey at some places. I know I shouldn't take the risk but I don't see any green molds or anything that seems peculiar, except the color thing I'm asking about.

mycellium is white. if you have blue spots, its ok, just as long as its not green. blue is from bruising, your jar may have shaken up a little.

Yeah!, I've been handling them alot. First time grower, I like to look at my jars, when I'm alone and... never mine. By the way, since you are the only one who answered, can you answer this: could it be possible for jars (2 different strains: mazatapec & puerto Ricain) to take up to 2 months to get completely colonize? Shouldn't it take less then that?

if you have the 2 different strains in one jar, it wont colonize at all. i have a jar that has taken 1 month and a half of eq's and it still isn't completely colonized, i just took it out early. if you have a majority of it colonized, you can take it out, or cut out the uncolonized part- that's very susceptible to contams.
are these the jars that you overheated?

check out making an incubator. Greatly reduces colonization times

2 jars or Puerto and 2 jars of Mazza, not all in the same. No I didn't overheat my jars I think you are mistaking for someone else.
The only thing I did was during the second month incubation, I put my jars in a small rubbermaid container with holes punched all around and put that container in a bigger one filled with water and a fishtank heater. It raised the temp to 84 degrees (recommended for Mazatapec and puerto ricain) with an RH of about 85%.

Any links for a way to make an incubator. I tried one but not sure if it was OK. Check the answer to MissPac to see how I did it. Can you tell me if it's a good setup? Muchos Gracias

Myc is white. Period. If you have other colors (blue/green/gray). Generaly, it is a contam of one sort or another . 6T (sorry to burst any bubbles)

I had a lil experiment w/ one of my jars... 4 innoculation points... 2 were mazatapec and the other 2 were b+... The b+ mycelium took over the mazatapec... took a bit longer to fruit but up came some really beautiful b+ mushies... they are still poppin up as we speak

Since the "contam" seems to be close to the dry verm barrier, could it be possible that that vermiculite didn't do it's job properly?

Though it may not be so, but it really looks like mycelium.
