Question for Mycosupply
    #1055130 - 11/15/02 08:45 AM (21 years, 5 months ago)

Hello, I like your brand filter discs, but I want to use the plastic lids with them instead of the metal rings. Do you sell plastic rings that will just hold filter in place. Everytime I ues the metal rings the filters get dirty and rusty.

Hello,
No, sorry we do not sell plastic rings.  To be honest with you they don't make plastic rings.

But what you can do is this....

Drill a hole in the center of the plastic lids, and smear some cement glue along the edge of the hole, then you can attach a small filter.  We have filters specificially for this, they are smaller "50mm Discs for Self Drilled Holes".    These filter are very popular.

Or you can cut larger filters to any size you'd like.

But to answer your question, no we do not carry plastic rings.

If you need anything else, ask here or PM me

Have a good day,
Lana

Oh...one other thing.

If you have dirty filter discs, its very easy to clean them.

Simply put a cap full of water in a bucket (2 or 3 gallon utility bucket is fine) then throw in your filter discs. Let them sit for a few hours or even overnight. Then, just take them out and let them dry off.. TA DA!!

You'll be able to bleach out most rust stains and get rid of any dirt.

I've found it's easier to melt a hole in the center of plastic lids. Every time I've tried to drill the holes, the lid ends up cracking. Just heat up a #3 phillips screwdriver and push it through, wallow out the hole a little, and viola! About a .5" hole is all thats needed. Filter disk underneath and you're good to go. I just screw the lid right over the filter disk and leave the excess to hang. No worries!

I like the huge surface area that the filter discs/metal ring combo gives you.  I think that helps colonize faster.  Even if it does't help colonize faster, it just helps in even air exchange. I could be worng, but it helps me sleep at night.  I guess I could just make them into rings as easy as drilling a hole through them.
