Habitat: wet, cold old cow pasture in Eastern Idaho, US.
Gills: dark brown/ grey with darker spots. Cap: 1/4 inch diameter to1.5 inch diameter cap. light brown with golden brown nipple on top. larger mushrooms are much darker.
Spore print color: dark dark brown almost black.
Bruising: brownish
Other information: I know it is early for the season, that is why i want to be sure what these are before i munch 'em. it has been very cold and rainy here for over three weeks and as you can see in these pics, almost all the mushrooms were found surrounding old cow shit. thank you very much!!

Looks like some kind of panaeolus. Likely not active.
Wait for a trusted id-er though.

They are Panaeolus. Check for signs of bluing at the very base. Also take spore prints. They are not Libs, however. Possibly Panaeolus papilionaceus.

also, just my opinion, i don't believe Idaho qualifies as the PNW, the climate and topography are very different. it would be like saying that Lake Tahoe was in the desert because the desert is not very far away, in the case of Idaho and the Oregon coastline, even more of a contrast. they look like what i thought was Panaeolus papilionaceus from a few id requests back (not the best pic)? like many things, i don't really know.

why is every bell shaped mushroom a lib...??
5 minutes of research would tell you from the spore print color alone you are way off, not to mention season, location, and just about everything else. No offense but jeez.

thanks and sorry for being such a noob. it usually doesn't rain like this here and i never see so many mushrooms. got excited i guess. from what i can find with ya'lls direction; they ARE "Panaeolus Campanulatus" This is a list of psychoactive mushrooms in Idaho... Gymnopilus aeruginosus Gymnopilus junonius Gymnopilus luteofolius Panaeolus cinctulus Psilocybe fimetaria Psilocybe pelliculosa Psilocybe silvatica from what i read there is a chance that these may contain small amounts of psilocybin. if so, does anyone know how many i should eat to give it a safe try? (i am an experienced mushroom user.) thanks again for the ID, hope i am not getting off topic here.

I know what its like to want every mushy you find to be the right one! Welcome to the shroomery Don't think you wanna try and eat enough of those to get a placebo like high, although I'm fairly certain those aren't poisonous get a trusted identifier to give you a green light.

i would look for Panaeolus cinctulus first, if what you had there was in fact Panaeolus papilionaceus, ime, they like similar conditions, birds of a feather. there are many, many photos of P. cinct on this site, and the more you find them, the more variation (within the realm of their mycological certainties) you see

Yeah for mushroom hunting, the "PNW" is pretty confusting since East and West of the Cascade range have very diferent climates. I always thought that it would have made more sense to divide the state lines up the mountains instead of the river. That way West could be blue, and East could be red, and we wouldn't have all this petty political bickering going on all the time

Speaking of climate differences, today is Seattle's 28th day of no measurable rain. If we make it through midnight dry, it ties the all time record. Tomorrow we will have set the new record. I believe Eastern Wa has had thunder showers for most of those 28 days we have been dry. Crazy.

I have some agrocybe still popping up a street away in extreme shade, but I think they are the only mushrooms in the city.
For as dry as June has been, July and August are statistically much drier. Enjoy the weather though, cause our active season will be here very soon.

weird weather for sure! usually here in eastern ID, we don't get hardly any rain, hence me never really noticing mushrooms before. but i'm not shitting you guys it has not stopped raining in 4 weeks! it is very cold, and the forecast has at least 10+ more days of rain coming; may be a record for us i think the seattle storms are in Idaho....
