Pseudo-philosophic jibberish.
    #10376163 - 05/21/09 12:53 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

If there is a concrete, absolute, single truth to existance, can one ever know it?

Is there any way to know, what knowing is?

Can one absolutely, undeniably, know that they know?

Or are why just left with thinking we know, believing we know.

Knowledge is awareness. I think it's possible to be aware of the 'truth', whatever that may be.

How would you know that what you're aware of is the truth, unless you assume that you already know the truth and can compare your own beliefs to this?

Help yourself and revisit Hume, Kant and Schopenhauer and enjoy them as you see fit. Of these three, in my opinion, we are unwillingly underexposed.

As an aperitif, one could recommend

http://philotube.blogspot.com/search/label/Kant
http://philotube.blogspot.com/search/label/Schopenhauer

Maybe you're aware of the truth, but aren't aware that what you're aware of is the truth.

Isn't it true that the sky is blue?

Your metereological predictions are most likely correct, but I cannot say that they are in fact true.  (Although for the sake of some enjoyable rain, I would hope they are.)

I think the only statement one can say is true is 'I exist', but even this seems questionable.

The "blue" of the sky is experienced as it is because only a small portion of the electromagnetic spectrum is available to the perceptual faculties of the human eye, but since there is actually a far greater spectrum, "blue" is only relatively real, a convention of the mind to describe something that appears in the limited perceptual process of sight; and even if "blue" were an inherent and knowable quality, the sky only appears blue - and even then only on a sunny, cloudless day - because of the interaction of the Sun's light with Earth's atmosphere.

In my opinion one cannot be certain whether another person exists, or even if oneself exists, as the possibility that reality is solely a spontaneously-arising projection of primordial mind can never be negated.

and that in itself doesn't taint the fullness of the human experience other than for those who indulge monomaniacally in what is, first and foremost, a simple and inexpensive thought, a swift breeze across one's landscape, imaginary or not.

It does seem to, but questioning can subside into non-questioning, in which case what is left of the self that questioned its own existence?  What remains of course is the aggregate sensations of the body and the perceptual field with which it seems to interact, but where is inherent existence to be found in any of this constantly-changing interaction?  Might not a false self be created when the desire to know arises, and die when the desire subsides?

Even if reality is solely a spontanously-arising projection of primordial mind, I don't get how that makes it non-existant...
