List your must read books, maybe I'll combine all of 'em into one list, and sort them with a poll once we get a bunch of them.
-In no particular order-
The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy The Dharma Bums Coming of age in the milky way the dancing Wu li masters Dante's inferno Everyman: From Simple Numbers to the Calculus the giver My boyscout handbook the illuminatus the hobbit the lion the witch and the wardrobe zen mind beginner's mind starship troopers the call of the wild fight club great expectations dance of the fallen monk a peoples history of the world the age of reason 1984 the art of warfare......I definitely didn't understand the depth of this book the first time through.
They're not the greatest books ever written or anything, but they're all books that made an enormous impression on me at various points in my life. They're the books that I would make sure I had available if I had a kid, and that's the point.
Anyway, that should get the list started.

Good List! I'm gonna have to check some of those out as well. Here are some good ones that I enjoyed:
A Brief History Of Time The Universe In a Nutshell (I like Hawking) In Search Of Captain Zero A Land Remembered (good read if you live in Florida, it might be hard to relate or find interesting for others) Fight Club Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, So Long and Thanks for All the Fish (Douglass Adams is good)

PiHKAL TiHKAL
I've finished PiHKAL and I'm half way through TiHKAL. Both are incredible books and both have influenced my own thoughts quite a bit. I definitely recommend them.
BTW, seeing as this is a thread about literature, I should probably point out that unofficial is spelt wrong .

Already mentioned, but DMT: The Spirit Molecule should be at the top of the list.

Steven Erikson's
A Tale of the Malazan Books of the Fallen series defines the term epic.
Fantasy lovers check it out, first installment is Gardens of the Moon.
Additionally, by Robin Hobb, The Farseer, Liveship traders, Tawny Man and Soldier's Son trilogies are great fantasy reads as well.

Then, and only then, once you have fallen so far and are but a shell of that which you once were, I will grant you your every dream. Only to crush them all before your eyes. You doubted my willpower, you abused my generosity, and now you will recognize my cruelty. -Anonymous
