The Continuous Experience of "I"
    #10353317 - 05/17/09 01:10 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

All through our waking life we have the sense "I"

You have it right now

Its continous, unbroken, anything that pops up, the "I" is beyond watching it
Without your "I" you couldnt read these words
its there behind taking in everything...all senses filter into "I"

Whats unbroken & continous must be pretty special
considering how so many things come & go

Faster than an instant we can give full attention to "I"
By simply dropping whats infront of the "I"

Letting the "I" stand by itself
not leaning on outside things for its sense of self

Intutively see your "I"...
Your fleshy eyes aren't needed, they're already after the "I"
if you were blind you'd still have "I"

How far can you go into this "I"?

Where are the limits???

:peace:

Read it again & feel the words as you read them, theres no rush

Or if you meditate, keep dropping what you see & focus back on the "I"

Please report back to me with something, your here for something i can feel it...

I dunno, no doubt there is something pretty crazy to anything with "consciousness" - I would say that it is pretty hard to rank self-hood and body. I think they both entail each other.

But I do think that there is something common between all life forms, something basic. Something in the math of it all or something, haha. But I think the truer point of extended and finite life that we see all around us is what we see obviously - feeding, growing, and gaining power seem to be the essential characteristics of bodies.

But perhaps the human has gotten to such a level of success in this game that something sort of funny happens with the human.  We are so ignorant at bottom, but that seems to be the funny point of it all. But yes, I think there could be something to certain aspects of the ego.

For a long time I have thought that there seems to be something very raw and sticky about the ego - something naked about the ego that could be at home as any body. I dunno, like the progress of life has something latent in it even in the present form of what life form one could be. Like WE all have a learning curve with our bodies. But there is something that we are personifying that is being refreshed anew by another instantiation of DNA - self hood is very confusing. Think about behaviors that grew from trial and error that we see in complex species... what a play that shit is. I thank tripping a lot for letting those lucid realizations and observations flow. I dunno, there is something timeless that bodies make a show of. Isn't it crazy how legacies are formed by species. Every life form has a history beyond the individual's finite dance with existence. So much more could be said... :sun:

Hard to divvy this all up, but yeah perceivers are doing something crazy. Taking in being as if we are separate, but we realize the paradox in it...

I've often thought that we are all just eyes (or "I"s) to another body. Despite what defines us as individuals we are all too similar. I don't have much else to say on it right now, but I will have more to say at some point. I'm still deciding how I feel about the ego. Whether its a good thing or a bad thing, or simply "there". I suppose it depends on whether you see humanity as something special or just the product of evolution making us into a tad bit more than the other organisms that inhabit the earth. I think it is interesting that as soon as the "I" is gone, extraordinary things can happen, I see the ego as a closed window that once opened has all the answers behind it. Could the ego be what hinders us, and not what enhances us?

Hey, this sounds a lot like the teachings of SHRI RAMANA MAHARSHI. He's dead. But he always talked about The Self. It feels like you are asking about the very same thing. He always gave great importance to self-enquiry. Who is asking this question? What is it that I am? Is what I am basically the same that everything else is?
He said that we are the self which simply is what it is. Al we need to do is abide in the self...

Bye for now.

[altered quote]Chronic777 could have said (but got into something else):

All through our life we smear our thoughts and feelings in the stream of consciousness
forming a continuity of selfness.

You are doing it right now

Its continuous, a process of adding and integrating senses into memory
Without memory you couldn't read these words
mind is taking in everything...all senses filter into the stream

Whats unbroken & continuous must be pretty special
considering how so many things come & go

Faster than an instant we can give full attention to an associated memory
blotting what is in conveyed by the senses

How far can you go into mind?

Where are the limits???

VERY happy to hear that you know of Ramana

His words carry immense power, i love Ramana so much words can't convey it,
what ive seen & felt after reading his words is just incomparable to any other human experience available, he constantly points to the absolute

Love
