Essential to have a Fruiting Chamber?
    #10353290 - 05/17/09 01:05 PM (14 years, 9 months ago)

Is it actually essential to have a fruiting chamber, or would a filter bag do? Im confused whether or not to spend some money making a fruiting chamber.

You could make a fruiting chamber very cheaply with just a plastic storage box with a clip-on lid and Perlite for humidification. Another variation is to use a cool mist or other type of humidifier. The humidifier is superior because you would have a positive pressure, so you could drill some holes in the walls of the box and have automatic air exchange. Of course, the humidifier is more expensive but I think you would get better results.

Im on a tight budget at the moment so ill try and use the perlite method but if i am successful i may go to the more expensive methods.  Thank you very much for the posts much appreciated

I've fruited mushrooms inside plastic bags. You could set them on lids, each in a bag of its own.

5$ for Perlite and 10$ for a rubbermaid tub.

Stovetop + Metal rod = all the holes for FAE (Do this outside it stinks)

Fruiting chamber on the slimmest of budgets.

when i changed to a simple, static fruiting chamber, it made all the difference in the world to helping create a contaminant-free incubation environment, and it was better able to hold the humidity levels and get FAE where it needed to be. i love them.
