Ive got a few jars on the go at the moment, with the cubensis strain Costa Rica in them. My rooms at about 24-26oc. Its now may 11th and a couple of the jars are doing well and nearly over the half way point of colonization, an added point to that colonization has been very slow i think it has something to do with the ratio for the cakes i used mix of 2V:1BRF:1W do you think my mushies be ready by my birthday on the 28th of may.

No, I very much doubt it. I don't know how well colonised they are but from what you tell me it is going to be at least another couple of weeks to colonise plus one more week to consolidate, then you are looking at up to two weeks for them to pin and at least 3-4 days to fruit.

hard to tell.
just whatever you do, DONT do anything silly to try to get them to go faster.
chances are whatever you do will just make it take LONGER.

If everything goes perfect, you MAY have some by then. There are some things you can do to speed up, but will increase your chances of total failure as well.
I don't know about celcius to farenheit ratios, and I'm not gonna look it up right now, but sometimes bringing up your temp to about 80 f will speed things up(I know alot of people around here disagree, but I've found that it does speed them up.)
Also flipping your jars over, and smacking them on a table to free the bottom of the cake from the jar bottom and incubating them that way CAN speed up a slow jar, but you can also get contams in that way when the air flows in.
Do you have tape or foil over your jar lids? That can slow them way down.
I'm not necessarily advocating all these ideas, because they do increase your chance of failure (except the last one, as long as you have a dry vermiculte barrier on top), but they are tricks that can speed things up if it's REAL important to you to have some for your B day. Or you can just chill out, and let things happen at their own pace...

I've got some with just tinfoil and cello-tape then another layer of tinfoil on top of that then others with a lid and tinfoil but no cello-tape.

You should never have foil over them in any case.

Do you have a dry vermiculte layer on top? If so, take that foil and tape and shit off there. No wonder they're going so slow. You need gas exchange. If no verm layer, still take the foil off, and replace with some micropore medical tape(allows enough gas exchange through. I'm not sure what cello-tape is, but it has to be breathable.

With some of my cakes Im using glass cups cause you don't seem to be able to get casing jars in Scotland so should i just take off the second layer of tinfoil n put porous tape over the holes i've made in the first layer of the tin foil????

Oh, I don't know about all that my friend. If you have a dry vermiculite layer on top that would probably be ok, but if not, I dunno. I'd rather hear from one of our experts on that (I'm an expert novice LOL.) Probably be safest in a glove box, or at least a still air box, so no nasties get it.

If you can get the top layer off without removing the bottom one, you can. But you could just as well poke 4 pin holes with a sterilised syringe and cover them with micropore tape. They need to get a little filtered gas exchange.
BTW you can get jars of Bonne Mamam jam which are perfect for making BRF cakes. Tesco also have their own brand which are also in wide mouth jars.

Or you can just shift gears to grain jars in qts(edit-I guess they probably don't have quart jars there because of metric, but I'm sure Litres would work), then you don't have to eat all that jelly...

Cello-tape is like plastic tape, I'm not sure what it is called in the States. It would be okay for holding the foil in place, but it is useless for gas exchange. Use micropore tape over your inoculation holes.

Hey Jaffi. If you're looking for micropore tape, 3M makes it. In North America their retail brand name for it is "Nexcareâ„¢ Gentle Paper First Aid Tape". You can find it in the first aid section of your local drug store.

It's called Scotch Tape in North America.
