WBS Yeast Problem.
    #10317653 - 05/10/09 03:53 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

My latest failure with WBS has resulted in massive yeast contamination.

Since my last attempts I tried re-making my lids with thicker injection ports, and used silicon to hold the tyvek on the lid.

Now I am wondering, since it's grain, is the yeast problem because of insufficient Pressure cooking or faulty lids?

From what I have read, yeast doesn't survive the PC'ing. What my friend does is this:

1 - Soak WBS for 12 hours
2 - Put contents in strainer ( to get rid of dirty water )
3 - Let drain for 10 min.
4 - Run under a cold tap for a couple minutes while in strainer
5 - Dump WBS into the pot you soaked them in ( rinse the pot first )
6 - Fill with water and swish swash that around for a bit
7 - Put contents into strainer again
8 - Rinse under a cold tap for about 5 minutes
9 - Let drain WELL for about 30 minutes ( my buddy usually tap the bottom of the strainer to get out excess water )
10 - When there is no more water to be drained, Not even a drop, load your jars.

The problem you are having my friend had once too. It probably isn't yeast. It is just that you didn't rinse and drain them well enough. Rinse as much as you like but I found that what my friend does works.

Hope this helps you out and good luck my friend.

I don't believe in soaking

I measure 300 ml bird seed and 150 ml water. I pressure cook for 60 minutes exactly.

Shake rite after pcing
and once every 30 mins for the next 2 hours minimum for maximum water re distribution.

Incock with spore or healthy lc and see growth in 2-10 days.

I wanna start my own business of mass producing bird seed jars. Cause I can make 9 every hour and a half.

Edit: Also, it looks exactly like the stuff on this jar.

You soak for a reason. If you do not get the endospores in the wbs to germinate, then they will survive the PC process.

That is probably your problem.

No soaking, amazing results.
