Dried Disciotis venosa has a very very sweet rusty smell

Been finding a lot of these lately. When dried they smell so much like the yellow morels a very very sweet rusty smell.
I wonder what that smell is caused by. What kind of substance it is.

I believe Disciotis venosa is non-poisonous and the literature out there that states they are poisonous is in error.
I believe it is in error because of misidentifications that have been made. And the true culprit had been Gyromitra leucoxantha
or Discina leucoxantha. And these literatures are stating MMH as the chemical and that is all too tell tale of Gyromitra.

So I believe Disciotis venosa is getting a bad rap because of human error in identification.

Of course it is risky in assuming its Disciotis, but they need to do microscopic verification.
