having a problem with a poor man's pod..

I made a poor man's pod from magash's instructions, but I can't get the humidity to go up past around 60% rh. I am using a 92 quart container with a terta whisper 40 gallon air pump (the cc's of air moved is not displayed on the packaging) divided between two bubble wands. there are many bubbles, but no visible condensation on the walls of the chamber. my hygrometer reads no higher than 65, granted it is a cheap analog hygrometer. I am using hydroton, around 3 inches with water coming within an inch of the top.
this is the second tub this has happened to, the first tub I was going to use was an opaque rubbermaid container, of the generic variety. I assumed that the issue was due to the warped lid, so I got a container with a lid that was by no means airtight but all the edges of the lid touch the container, I read in the thread that you could maintain 80% humidity with the lid off.
I have read through the entire original thread twice and have not found a solution for my problem, can anyone help me?

Calibrate your hygrometer before you do anything else.

defiantly recalibrate, and maybe 1/2 inch more water. I use three pmps 2 with perlite and 1 withe hydro ton all three 100% humidity

Warpigs330, I would urge you to change your FC setup. The "PMP" design is quite flawed. Air pumps, bubble wands and hydrotron are ineffective and not worth the hassle. An air pump is not sufficient for air exchange even if it's left on 24/7 (and they're noisy as hell).
Keep it simple. All you need in your tub is a few inches of damp perlite. Perlite is MUCH better than hydrotron and will keep your humidity in the upper 90's. The other issue is air exchange. All that's needed is a manual fanning 2-3 times a day (more preferably). Some people just use the lid of their tub to waft the stale air out. I prefer using a hair dryer (on a low, cool setting) to fan out my FC. But that's it. Perlite for humidity + fannings for air exchange = success. If you're looking for automation, just drill some shotgun-style holes in the FC and run an external fan on a timer. But get rid of all the PMP gizmos, I promise they're more trouble than they're worth. Good Luck.

I did the perlite with fanning on my last grow, and while I had success with the method by the end of the grow I was so tired of fanning three times a day and dealing with messy ass perlite I almost just wanted to throw out the cakes before they were done fruiting.

I hear you, being a slave to your terrarium sucks, but the fact remains that air pumps are not going to provide adequate FAE. And don't give up on perlite, it's one of the best things to ever happen to the home cultivator (and not really that messy). Try making a shotgun FC, they require less fannings and you could even set up a fan on a timer a few feet away to help with air circulation. Or go the monotub route if you want full on neglect...
