Any stats on the accidental ingestion of psilocybin mushrooms?
    #10297001 - 05/06/09 01:35 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

Are there any stats on the accidental ingestion of psilocybin containing mushrooms by people picking edibles in the wild? I was just sitting here smoking and it came to mind Hofmanns first experience and how he had no idea what was happening to him. So I was wondering if this still happens often, people tripping and not realizing they are just tripping. Hope that makes sense

You would think that somebody picking edibles would know enough what poisonous specimens look like.

Would be funny to hear about though

At first I thought they'd never get 'em down because of the taste.

But you know, they didn't used to taste so bad to me. So maybe it's an acquired gag reflex.

At any rate, they'd prolly just think they poisoned themselves and spend the whole trip in the ER, or they'd only eat one and have no effects, or they'd destroy the actives during cooking.

And don't they grow in cowshit most places?

They are found indeed in the manure of cows and horses, as they are a manure loving species.

Not all actives grow on cowshit. many grow on wood chips, or in dunegrass. Still though, I can't imagine anybody who even half ass knows about picking edibles making that mistake. There aren't really any edible look alikes that I'm familiar with.

I do remember my mom telling me a story about somebody coming across someones stash in a cabin they were staying in, and cooking up some yummy omelettes, not having any idea that they were magic mushrooms! That omelette would be quite a surprise!

Never heard like someone said, If they are out hunting they should be able to spot a active from a non active.

http://www.erowid.org/library/books_online/magic_mushrooms_aunz/magic_mushrooms_aunz4.shtml

I came across this story way back when.

Also every time I attempted L back then I always forgot what I had done as I was starting to come up. It always took about 45 minutes after the come up to realise I had done this to myself.
