Discussion for the different looks of the GT
    #1027635 - 11/06/02 10:04 AM (21 years, 4 months ago)

Hello all

i had a nice discussion with Derrayld about the different looks the GT strain (golden teacher) appear to have.

There is the GTa type, which looks like an EQ and there is the GTb type which looks exactly as a golden teacher should be. The pointy cap that reminds us of a chinese hat, perhaps of a chinese 'golden' teacher  lol

The question is why on the same casing most of them appear NOT to have the distinctive point cap?

The following picture proves that differences occur inside a small region of the mycelium:

So, lets share our experiences with the GT strain. What results do you have? Is there a problem in the strain itself or is it a matter of nutrients or terrarium conditions? Imho its important to discuss this, because there is no reason to cultivate GTs if they are gonna be like EQ. The whole key is the pointy cap!

What would be wrong with the GT in that case?

nothin is wrong. is just a matter of personal perspective. i dont mind making high yields, but i definately pursue ideal-shaping mushrooms.

when i am birthing a GT casing, i wanna produce perfect GT shrooms, thats all.

so Anno do you happen to know why the GT behaves like that?

High Kykeon,

A perfect GT. My most beautifull GT's are always in the second flush.
Today I had a nice harvest Plantasia. Most had the nice cap, but not all.
To me they are all perfect.

But I realy have no idea who that diversety excist, I know that it is nature and always around

Peace my friend

The pic of GTa looks just like my z-strain which apparently is a GT with a fancy name. Nice rounded cap it has...

okee i can stick with that.

does anyone had a high ratio of pointy shaped GTs in his casings? perhaps if we discuss it a little more you guyz, we can find somethin! imagine if there is a way [eg nutrients] to have most if not all of gt shrooms in a casing look like chinese hats!

com'on you guyz!

share your GT experiences with me!

In reply to:

hm...

do we know the history of z-strain? somethin is worth discussing in here... i mean Thais are always Thais, they dont look like Ecuadors. Why is this mess around GT and Z ?

perhaps we should all sit our bottoms lol down and make a list of which strains are what

I have Z-strain and GT fruits at the same time, in a friend aquarium. They do not look the same to me, I think that them being the same is a false assumption. The Z-Strain as said earlier have much more pointy caps, and are much lighter from the beginning. The fruits do not get quite as big, but bluing seems to be nearly the same (VERY deep bluing effect, as compared to say cambo)

The z-strain that I am growing has a nice rounded cap...no points at all.
*wonders to herself what z-strain REALLY is*
Maybe z-strain happens to be what keeper pulls out of his ass....an unmarked syring goes as z-strain...LOL

just to share my few experiences with gt strain that i LOVE...
i've had as you say 2 types of gts, but most of them didn't have a pointy cap and some even had a conic shape (like another i-dont-remember-the-name strain)
and here is a link to a thread about a single casing with a lot of mutants...

yeah, I know that guy is a freaking criminal!!! The thing is I did not do any homework when I first started this whole thing. I just went to his site and it said it came with everything needed to start growing, so I figured that was just the price for everything needed. Needless to say when it came I was very dissapointed, everything that was sent I could have bought at wally world for about 100 bucks! PC and all. I wish there was something that could be done about this bastard, all his is, is a HYPE.
Don't believe me here is his fucked up site! www.shrooms.cc
Anybody know how to hack, maybe you could throw a few kinks in it for me?? =)
JK. So if you know anybody that is thinking about buying from that guy...tell them for me that it is the worst thing they could possibly do. Peace
J

what i get from the picture here is that vendors are competing themselves, trying to find better wayz to sell more.

the SporeTradingPost actually has pics of what they sell, but those pics are the SAME with the originals pics found at Fungi Perfecti.

there is a mess about the strains, because each vendor can easily baptize whatever he wants as anything. That is known and we cant do much about it, apart from discussing it so as less and less shroomers buy from shitty vendors.

So it seems that GT strain is forming two kind of caps: round and pointy. There are also other strains that produce pointy caps. So, how did we come to the conclusion that GT are different from other strains eg Z ? Perhaps its one degenerated EQ or any other simple cubbie that produce some variety of different caps.

My question remains unanswered though; we have all seen from personal experience that substrate materials and terrarium conditions are factors that alter the final appearance of the shrooms. I am wondering, if GT is a pure strain of cubbies, that means that it was originally by nature grown at some place on this planet, with some specific habitat. If we knew that, and were able to recreate that enviroment or substrate, we could create perfectly pointy cap GTs. Perhaps we feed the GT mycelium with substrates that are okee, but not exactly what preferred.

I bought some spores from a vendor in Las Vegas selling $10.00 Spore Syringes.

The cakes had 10 or so flushes.

The fruit bodies averaged one inch tall. Definately not the GTs I have been used to growing. Neither fruits nor cakes showed the slightest hint of a blueing reaction.

Fruiting a supposed Amazonian cake now. Never pinned. The fruit bodies, although having extremely tiny caps (size of a Rye Berry),look more like groups of Fan Coral than typical Amazonians.

Did I get burned or do something wrong?

Oh...the vendor is Micro-Tek
