Proper humidity level???
    #10255752 - 04/29/09 12:51 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

space cadet jerm, reporting for duty!

I just bought a couple of humidity gauges today, but i can't seem to find the proper level of humidity that i should be working to maintain.

What is the right humidity percentage for growing cubes??

Thanks for the help guys!!

Somewhere between 90% and 100% should work fine. I don't have a gauge in mine I just look to see if there is condensation on the inside of the terrarium.

As close to 100% as you can get it

Just because there is condensation on the inside of the FC doesnt always mean the humidity is high.....it just means the temp of the inside of the FC is different from the temp outside of it.

I thought that when water condensates on the inside of the terrarium when it is at constant room temperature means it is nearly 100% humidity.

I'm not the brightest crayon in the box though.

Condensation has nothing to do with humidity.  You get condensation on a glass of iced tea, even in the desert in middle of summer.

Without humidity, you would never have condensation...on any surfaces ever.

Very true, but if you think the five percent humidity in the desert that allows condensation to form on a glass of iced tea is sufficient to grow mushrooms, go for it.  The point is that condensation is not an indicator of relative humidity.  I've typed the long version out so many damned times, I was hoping to see if folks were smart enough to absorb the short version.

I understood that you probably didn't mean exactly what you said, rather that condensation is not an indicator of RH, but that doesn't mean everyone got it.  I was trying to be gentle, that's why I point people to learn what a dew point is first.  You can apply that concept to non-natural environments like a FC, or a basement window that has condensation on the inside glass.
