First grow, a few methods, PICS, UPDATED 4/24/09

OK, so for the 1st grow I wanted to try a few different things. PF tek, a monotub, and a cased tray in a tub FC.
PF tek- basic BRF cakes. Puerto Rican MS from Ralph. Here's a few pics.
Monotub (38L sterlite)- 10 parts coir, 5 parts verm, 1 part worm castings, tsp of lime.( sub was sterilized by accident) Brazilian MS from Ralph.
These fruits are short, fat, and solid as a store-bought mushroom.
They have dark caps compared to the other strains I have going. Nice! They have a PE look to them.
Lastly, I did a homestead kit (BPK from Thailand), but after the Kowanite colonized I decided not to fruit in the bag, I broke it up, put it in a tray in a FC, and put a light casing of verm on top (mostly because of the uneven surface, there were cracks and crevasses and I just made it even basically.) The pic does no justice, the big shroom is now 10"+, these things are huge. I had to take the pic through foggy saran-wrap.
The reason I tried these methods was to see what works best for me and to get some different experiences. I have a lot of spawn ready and 20lbs of tennstud on the way, so more updates and pics to come!
4/24/09 So I harvested the monotub with the short stubbies. Mostly because it needed a dunk, I mixed the coir a little too dry. Its been dunked and is now doing its thing.
Heres what I got:
It was almost 300g wet.
I broke one open, actually I squeezed it until it popped open, I wanted to see how hard they were. Solid shroom, deep blue!
So, the cased poo (kowanite) in the FC. Check it out.
I told you the last pic did no justice.
And all thanks to the knowledge gained here at the shroomery! If you look at the date I joined, at that time I knew absolutely NOTHING when it came to mycology, nothing. Thanks everyone.
Till next time my friends!

Those are some beautiful cakes. Did you do anything special to them? I've done over a hunderd and maybe have had 2 like that. Whats up on a print??? Looks like something I want to add to my collection!

Thanks man. Nothing special at all. I just followed the growing mushrooms brf tek videos, EXACTLY. I never strayed from the tek. I did buy organic brown rice from the bulk section of the grocery store, and grinded it myself.(I think most do this though)
That sucks about your cakes man. I did 10, and those are the first 3 that fruited, I'm lucky I guess.
I dont think its the genetics that are the cause of your problem, but I suppose it could be. But I'm through with cakes anyway, the yield is minuscule compared to bulk.

Yeah thats all for the bulk sub, it was spawned with rye at 3:1(sub to spawn).

interesting...
did you use coffee for the coir?
it just seems so nutrient deficient.

No coffee. Castings have much more nutes than coffee.
