Will 1 quart of grains colonize a monotub? 1

I made a monotub only to find that I was low on grain to prep. If I crumble 1 quart of colonized grain into 4.5 inches of substrate made of 50/50 coir/verm will it colonize after a while and what can I do to help ensure the success of my monotub
BTW my monotub is 18 gallon rubbermaid with 6 holes 5 inches high

you want a 1:4 ratio or less of spawn to bulk sub. since im in a good mood, if you give me the exact dimensions of you tub, i can give you some numbers

Or....there are other possibilities for getting fruits from your jar of spawn. You can do a mini-monotub or just case it. I would do the mini-mono, just get a way smaller tub and keep the ratio 1:4. Make more spawn next time. It may not be worth it to try a bigger tub with just one quart given the extremely long time to colonize = more chance of contams.

I could see why one quart wouldn't colonize a whole tubs worth of substrate, but just out of curiousity, would it be possible for him to add, say 3 quarts of bulk substrate and let it colonize. After it was done, he should, he should have 4 quarts of colonized substrate, so he could then add something like 9 more quarts of bulk substrate, and it would colonize without as large of a risk of contams?
Sorry, I'm just wondering if that's possible for situations like this.

That can be done successfully. In my opinion, it would take some skill and some luck, and you'd probably be better off just making some more jars for the next time, and using this one for spawning a little 6qt tub.

What breakfast is talking about is called 'super spawning'.
I use 6 quarts of spawn for my 18 gallon monotubs ..... 4 quarts if that's all I have .... but that's stretching it for me.

1 quart usually isn't one quart if you're used to doing jars right. More like 3/4's of a quart. I just say that because most people wouldn't even be using one quart. Using that much bulk with so little spawn would be a waste. You'll have a really high chance of contamination compared to a ratio of say 1:2. It'll take forever to finish... if it does. And if it fails you'll be wasting a bunch of bulk sub.
Also, adding colonized bulk substrate to fresh bulk also has disaster written all over it.
Stick with that was already suggested, do a mini dub tub setup or something of the like.
