All cotton - no rhizomorphic
    #10205612 - 04/21/09 06:30 AM (14 years, 11 months ago)

GGMM discusses rhizomorphic and cotton type growth when working with agar in order to isolate a culture for use.

I obtained a LC culture of Enoki from Sporeworks.

I have created 10 dishes from the LC mixture but all of the growth looks to me to be of cotton type.

My goal is to make some slants and then grow some mushrooms from this culture but I'm concerned because I see no rhizomorphic growth to use.

Comments and suggestions appreciated.

Some species don't have rhizomorphic mycelium. Sporeworks has top notch cultures and you will definitely get fruit from it. Use a plate to make some slants and throw the rest on some grain.

Please don't take my comments or question as any sort of negative about Sporeworks.

I have been extremely pleased with them and would recommend them to anyone.

I've read a lot, and studied a lot .... but nothing is quite like doing it.  That's where the question comes from.

Oh, I didn't at all! I was just answering your question and because you are using sporeworks LC I am completely confident that the cottony mycelium is normal for that species. Your right, there is nothing quite like doing it yourself! Good luck with your grow.

Hi.

GGMM, page 234-235 describes the mycelial characteristics.

It looks allright, I've never seen rhizomorphic enoki mycelium.

Cheers,

MM
