Polypropylene Bags
    #1018090 - 11/03/02 10:04 AM (21 years, 4 months ago)

Well while I was in walmart the other day in the aquarium section borrowing an air pump, I got to talking with the dude who worked there about the bags they used to sell fish in (remembering that I had read somewhere about these bags being constructed of a special material that allowed them to be pressure cooked).

I got a sample from him to see if it would do what I wanted but I am unsure if I want to risk it without re-checking here first: are these bags suitable for pressure cooking as long as they dont touch the sides or bottom? Secondly, are they strong enough to support the weight of being full of birdseed? This seems to me to be a good way to get a lot of spawn fairly quickly if I can manage to do a grain to grain transfer to it.

Tips, comments and suggestions welcome.

Also I am going to work from this thread created by Una as my model.

Sorry nobody answered you. I would guess most of us don't automatically know what kind of bags they sell fish in at Walmart. Why don't you just put them in for a short time with some weighty, non-valuable contents and try an experiment? If they are polypropylene, how is it easier or cheaper for you to get those bags rather than just buying Baggies in the supermarket?
