What should I know about loose tobacco?
    #10177109 - 04/16/09 10:55 AM (14 years, 11 months ago)

So now that a pack of cigs is like 9 dollars I am gonna switch to rolling my own.

What the fuck kind of tobacco do I want?  I don't even know where to get loose shit.  Guess I need to hit up a smoke shop?

Now I can finally roll with the cool kids.

Also if no one else has thought of this yet, now you know.  Cigarettes are over.

I've heard good things about American Spirit's loose tobacco. And yeah, you get it at a smoke shop.

Might want to ask AniNator about that, I know she rolls her own cigs.

Meh, Camels still cost around $3.50 a pack here. I'm gonna keep on smokin em.

Although I do love a handrolled from time to time or when I'm camping. It gets to be too much of a hassle to have to constantly roll one up whenever you want a smoke.

Oh yeah, as for recommendations, try out Bali Shag or Drum pouches. Those were my two favorites. I've heard good things about American Spirits too, but I've never tried them.

Psst... I live in the US.

Virginia and North Carolina historically have had the lowest cigarette prices in America. Hell, 2 months ago before the tax increase Camels and Marlboros were only $2.76 after tax.

I shit you not. And on top of that Camel sends me a bunch of coupons each month for $1 off a pack.

Cancer was never so cheap.

I have been rolling my own cigarettes for years. I get a bag of tobacco and a box of filter tubes and use a rolling device to get the tobacco in them. But I went to buy a bag of tobacco the other day and the price for a pound bag had more than doubled it went from $20 to almost $50. The guy at the counter said that Philip Morris helped work on the new tobacco tax bill and they decided to tax it by the pound, not by purchase, because apparently too many people were buying bags of tobacco and marlboro sales were taking a hit. It is still cheaper to roll your own, but not by much anymore. It used to break down to like $7 a carton if you roll your own. It is a bit more than that now but I haven't done the math.

North Carolina and Virgina you say? I just so happen to be driving through there in a few weeks. Where's the best place to buy cheap as cartons?

Depending on which route I take I might be going through Winston-Salem. I'd imagine shit's pretty damn cheap there.

american spirit rolling tobacco goes dry really quickly. if you buy it, put an orange peel or something in the pouch.

when i rolled my own, i either smoked custom blends (a lot of cigar/pipe stores will make rolling blends) or samson.

In Michigan, the tax on loose tobacco went up $23 on the pound. (and $1 something more on the pack)

Basically making roll your owns just as expensive as a pack.

Fuck that.

dude, don't mean to rain on your parade, but rolling your own cigarettes is no longer a cost effective option.  the federal tax that hit tobacco, hit rolling tobacco the hardest.  it's a federal wide tax increased, raising the tax on rolling tobacco something like 2000%.  fucking absurd.

so for me, a bag of bali shag that cost like $4.50 before the tax, is now over $10.

that said, i definitely prefer Bali Shag over American Spirit.  Bali is my shit.
