The Ethnobotanical Garden Research Team. Lets do this!
    #10161367 - 04/13/09 10:42 PM (15 years, 6 days ago)

My thoughts are that we should take our spare-able plants/cacti that have alkaloid content, of various natures, and run some experiments. I think that before people start volunteering to do this or that, lets get a solid list of worthy projects, vote on them, and each of us try to do at least one of those. At the end of each individual project we can start a thread, upload pics, and discuss our findings.

Alright. This thread is about what you guys think about this idea. I'm not going to waste my time getting this going without help from members in various climates.

Anyway, if this is appealing to enough of you guys, we can do the damn thing. Just think, we really have an opportunity to discover something cool. The discovery cannabis FIM tek was just pure luck, but most are found by driven people.

Alright. Thoughts?

EG

I like your idea, I'd do what I could, but what sort of experiments/projects are you thinking of?

Mychorhyzial mats have intrigued me lately.

I read too many boards to remember where I picked the idea up at, but the premise was to take worm-castings and colonize a grain jar with the oxygenated worm-tea.

I assume the grower would then spawn it to a vermiculte and straw layer, wedged inbetween two layers of soil. And a layer of newspaper to keep grain eatting bugs out. Measure it against a control plant I guess?

Worm tea probably wouldnt get me anything besides bacteria... I guess I'd need higher-eschelon organisms. Chlorella algae? ..no... chlorela's a plant..  need something that frealy makes and gives off nutrients...  Oyster/wood-pit maybe...

Bio-char is intresting too...

One I wanted to try out was the effect of phenethylamines on plant growth (in cacti) (e.g. does it speed up their growth cycle)
Though, that one could get costly

off topic/Fiming sux imho. At least it didn't help any of my clones./end off topic

Sounds like a good idea but spare cacti is a ridiculous thing to say.
When I have some cacti again I'll help with this if we have some smart ideas for projects.

Hah, I guess that's what I get for being in a rush to reformat and backing up files. But yeah to stay on topic, I think it's a good idea, but there needs to be a real sense of purpose or one study done at a time, so narrowing it down will be hard.

I have a feeling they will either rot or crack from over growth.
