Is this reishi?
    #10140508 - 04/10/09 01:52 AM (15 years, 9 days ago)

i found it in my yard on some fallen branches under a big tree

i live in tropical Australia... its still summer here so its quite humid, but extremely hot (about30-35 during the day), but because its getting towards the end of summer nights are starting to cool down

The top looks like Trametes versicolor, the "Turkey Tail" mushroom (another medicinal).  However, I need to see the underside of the mushroom to be sure.

ive never seen an all brown turkey before, not discrediting you.it looks too thin and laking a "stem" to be a ganoderma tho. color and growth patterns look a lot like the ganoderma applanatum i used to collect.

does the bottom change color when you scratch it?

a polypore none the less

The pores are far too large to be T. versicolor.

does anyone know this one yet? i have never seen perfect round pores before that size

the closest i could come was Daedaleopsis Confragosa but the pores dont seem to match right unless they stretch with age

good ole MS paint

idk just my best guess

I'm not sure.  The pores remind me of Polyporus, but I don't know any species with a top side that looks like that.

my first guess would have been a polyporus but i thought they all had a defined "stem".....

the top side looks like T.versicolor or a young G.applanatum but the pores totally dont match up
closest i can still find is "Daedaleopsis Confragosa" but ive never even heard of the genus:confused:
the few pics of it show a pretty close resemblance to the topside and the early growth on the pore side show thos perfect round pores, the mushroom in question looks pretty young and all the pics i can find are of mature specimens

i really want to know wtf this is now................

Myco psyco, it is not Daedaleopsis confragosa, as you noted, the pores are wrong.  I looked at other species within that genus last night, and didn't find any matches.  Good thinking though.

The pic of the underside is not super clear, what shape are the pores?  They look like they might be hexagonal which would be significant.

Its surely one of those tropical polypores and I doubt it will be on any of the standard mushroom sites.

There are some Australian fungi experts that would probably know exactly what it is.

They definitely seem hexagonal or diamond shaped to me.

i looked through books, went through a huge list of ausi polypores and cant find shit:confused:

maybe the key to id'ing this is the hexagonal DIMPLED pores. they're not deep pore "tubes" like most polypores, from what i can see in the pic they're shallow dimples:sleepingcow:

they are not perfectly round, and yes, this is from tropical australia.

The cap is very thin (a couple of mm) and the pores are also only quite shallow

also its very leathery and tough, but the top is quite smooth
