Roger Waters, or David Gilmour
    #10098175 - 04/02/09 11:10 PM (14 years, 11 months ago)

For all you fellow Floyd Heads out there, who do you like to see playing PF songs/concert more, Waters or Gilmour?

From what i have seen (Roger Waters presents the wall live in Berlin, Pulse(gilmour) etc etc) i seem to like DG's shows and PF songs better then when Waters preforms. I think its mostly because DG was the sound of PF and that is what really grabs you into Floyd IMO. Don't get me wrong i love the brilliant and sometimes bizarre lyrics that waters wrote and it was essential to PF, but usually he mimes his shows and plays with, how should i say, less then able musicians.

Anyone elses takes on this topic?

David Gilmour for Pink Floyd songs. I love Roger Water's solo work much better and love to hear him sing perform those songs. I guess Roger does the Final Cut better than David, who doesn't perform those songs live anyway. I really like the most recent versions of older Pink Floyd songs that David has been doing, like Fat Old Sun on the last tour...Amazing. The solo is a whole lot better and his sweet angel voice puts the icing on the cake.

The wall live in Berlin SUCKS! He's much better than what that shows. You should check out some newer stuff they've both put out, improvements have been made.

Don't know but it's all about Piper at the gates of dawn. I don't think any other album has influenced music as much.

Id like to see them do it for real and play together.

Im gonna have to say gilmour though.  Its because of all the 80's stuff and the fact that he is the sound I love.

Waters is an amazing lyricist and a fucking amazing and weird singer.

I couldnt possibly have an opinion about which person is more floydian.
Without Richard Wright I cant see paying much for a ticket anymore, (unless gilmour and waters cut the shit and play together).

all great posts and opinions. yeah i will have to try and check out some of waters newer videos and such, maybe i will change my opinion a little, but i doubt it, no disrespect. even watching live in pompeii, i seen to be more mesmorized by gilmour and mason then by waters.

Gilmour's bends are unreal. Always so blissful and he controls them so perfectly.

Honestly I can't listen to anything post-The Wall from Floyd. I like Rogers written Gilmour preformed music the best, for instance, Animals. I think Gilmour is the more talented musician and Waters is the creative genius.

Hmm I'll have to say Waters. I watched the Pulse DVD, which is a concert from 1994 without Waters, and I could never really dig it. Never really could get into post 1979 Floyd.

David Gilmour easily. Everyone knows Roger led to the unofficial breakup of the band.

Not to mention Gilmour is the lead guitarist of the band so is obviously more fun to see live. (At least from a guitar players perspective)

However I did see Roger Waters live in California at the Irvine Amphitheater a year or two ago. Best concert ever. Smoked ridiculous amounts of joints, blunts, and pipe bowls in the lawn section to all the best Pink Floyd tunes being blasted out on a warm, beautiful night.

But one thing that did strike a negative chord with me was when I saw a shirt my friend had from the concert saying: "Roger Waters Live! The brains behind Pink Floyd." It may not be verbatim but that was the jest of it.
