About Bagpipes

I've been playing bagpipes for seven years, and sometimes on the Shroomery I get asked about, and a little resonance goes a long way with me, so this is why I decided to write this Article.
The bagpipes are for subtle ears, in my opinion, for being an instrument so loud and weird looking or at first take a blatant instrument. This is not the case. Between the grace notes, the relationship between the notes because of the way they sound due to a constant drone (the drone is the one note pipe that goes Aummmmmmmmmmm), there is a lot going on. I think they are hidden by the natural attidue of the pipe which relates to heavy metal in a lot of ways. But this beast of an instrumet has a sensitive soul!
One of the last things I think about when I think of the bagpipe is scotland. Calle it musical resentment, but tons of other countries got the shaft because Scotland basically jazzed it up. Think of it this way: Scotland Bagpipes in my opinion were HEAVILY commercialized. They have all these silly costumes FOR the art, the music style is really strict, illogical pipe fingerings. To me Scottish Bagpipes are like KISS, all the others are like that awesome folk musician that nobody ever hears of. Call it musical resentment; Howeverafter listening to a plethora of other pipe music, Scottish pipes and music If there is any such thing as World Music, this is it, because these things span the Globe for 3000 years.
Bagpipes relate to Metal in the way a lot fo tunes (pre 14th century) are played in minor modes and scales that are pretty much identical to modern fretboard shredding, and you can shred on the pipes, too! In medieval times, major and minor were basically assigned "Good and Evil"-you can guess which. So after a hard day working in the field, would you rather hear Ozzy Osbourne or Rod Stewart? (well rod stewart that got you a wife, and Ozzy Osbourne that got you drunk, full and laid. It is a fine balance of which songs a minstrel would need to play' Every rose has it's thorn)
The art of minstreling goes hand and hand with the bagpipe, in my experience. The bagpipe was Dymaxion! More from less! What to do to entertain a huge crowd outside? Bagpipes and drums! No amps needed, it's loud. Also, the perfect walking through town instrument (even the Hurdy Gurdy can't pull this off as well, the Bagpipe's Arch enenmy) and you could hear the piper coming into town from far away. And you new to get out any offering because you may not hear music like that for a while; You also new its how he lived, so I think based of of what I have learned about music, there is a timeless mutual respect between the listener and player. Which is nice consdering I play what is considered to be one of the most ANNOYING instruments ever! (practicing them when I first started almost got me killed!;-)
Well that's some hot air I have on the subjet.
I have Traubentritt names!
