Habitat: I have been in the pasture very near me here in SW louisanna, the pasture is wooded with mixture of pines and various oaks. Lots of grass, clover shade etc. It has been raining heavy the last few weeks with some drying periods into the 80's. The pasture has a mixture of sheep and cow dung.
Gills: Black/blue gills, attached. When dry they are pretty much black.
Stem:(on the biggest one) Range from 1" to 4", 1/2 inch, stem is mostly white with a some white and black/blue, smooth , proportional and solid.
Cap: Approx. 3 inches in diamter, orange/tan with some black in the middle and white on the edge, smooth, conical. Some have holes and some have not fully developed
Spore print color: Very important!.....working on it now will add photo later.
Bruising: bruises dark blue drying to a mottled blue/black
They seem to be mostly dry with black mold on the top edge's
ARE THEY EDIBLE???????????????????
Thanks Finn
This is close to the same patch...nice little cubes

I'd pass them up. Those are really damn blue on the stems too wow.
Just hammer those baby cubes in a day or two. If they are cubes. I'm not the best identifier. So make sure!!

The top ones do not resemble mature cubes to me, I can't remember the name of them but I do remember they cause a serious case of upset stomach.

All smooth/glossy light brown mushroom caps will dry out to become goldish.

Ugh. How can you tell what they are? They're so old and beaten up. To be honest they don't even look that much like cubes to me, but like I said they're too dried up and old for me to tell. The bluing looks kind of weird.
Maybe they are, but I wouldn't be eating them even if I was 100% sure. They just look rotten. Probably full of maggots and fly eggs.
P.S. They already left a spore print for you on the cap of the one underneath. Looks dark purplish-maroonish-black.

They totally look like cubes. Even if they were NOT, the purplish spore print and the bluing stems tell me that it is safe to eat them and they will make you trip.

Pretty blue!!! I'd brush them off and scissor cut them up and simmer a tea with those. Or coffee grind them up after you brush them off and drink it. That's what they look like once you dry them out with a fan except these are naturally dried.
nice pictures...keep posting...peace

Kahuna is correct.
If it bruises blue and has a purplish-brown spore print then it's 100% an active Psilocybe Mushroom.

This is why P. cubensis has been given common names such as "golden tops", "gold tops" or sometimes "gold caps."

we are all new at some point, lets try to keep it friendly.

I'm not even new, it's just a new alias because I couldn't find/remember my old one. Been reading and occasionally posting here for about seven or eight years (at which time I am guessing wowitch was about 10 or 11 years old). Not that it's remotely important, but careful where you point your geeky "shroom"-ego.
