Upon further inspection one of my jars has grown a small amount of white mycelium while all of the others just have some clear growth in the rye is this a temp issue, i wouldn't be so worried had it not been 15 days already is this salvageable?

http:// the grow kit is a tub of water with a heat lamp in it, and a tub inside that with the jars, im keeping the water at 85 its just troubling that 15 days in this is the first mycelium showing out of 18 inoculated jars is it possible the jars are just going to take a long time to colonize?

85F is a bit high, might be slowing you down - ideal temperture is 78-82

get it out of the tub and let it colonize at room temp <76F, incubating at that temp is asking for contams.
Looks healthy so far though, spores always take a while to colonize a jar.

do your self a favor and dont buy anything from them jackasses agian. you can get the same stuff at wal mart for half the price and there set up sucks. on that note put them in a dark warm closet somewhere where no light can get to it i usually wrap mine in a blanket and put it on the top shelf, with in a week boom it should be good

They don't need to be in the dark. They colonize just fine just in light as long as it isnt direct sunlight.

not slimy, it actually is hardly noticeable from the rye and ended up turning into white mycelium in the above jars, i am just worried because its taken so long for anything to develop really

should i pull it out of the kit and let in colonize at room temp (70F) or just turn the heat lamp down and leave them in the tub?

You don't want to be tilting the jars though, as this will disturb your dry verm layer (assuming you have one).

It will colonize eventually in 70F, but it might take a while. It should be faster in the chamber (set to 78), but the risk of contamination is higher. You can also try splitting them, and see what works best for your next grow, or another way to go would be to increase your room temp using some sort of heater.

70 is fine. Its not worth accidentally getting to warm by incubating them.
