This is old outdated and BAD. I understand if you want to experiment, but this has been proven wrong. I am posting this update so that new people who see this do not try and follow it because it is not a TEK. If you are looking to grow for the first time, search for the SGFC Tek.

Do you think you could use two pieces of 1/2" vinyl hose on the lid of this and then vent it to two seperate fruiting chambers? or would each fruiting chamber need its own one?

This set-up is just the thing ive been looking for. I will build this in the next few days and post my results.

This is one of the most efficient and well designed home-made terrariums you will find. Climate control is always an issue (especially with the small growing environments used in most homes). So is the amount of time one is willing to spend  maintaining proper environmental conditions. Unless you want to spend gobs of cash on fancy but accurate automated controllers you will simply have to make some decisisons based on a variety of factors, including 1) your budget, 2) ambient climate conditions of your chosen growing space, and 3) your available time. The cheapest and lowest-tech way is the old mist-and-fan method. It works but is labor intensive. The more expensive but much easier way is a self-contained auto-regulating kit / system purchased from one of the Shroomery's reail sponsors. Somewhere in between fall a huge variety of other teks and kits.

Regarding air exchange concerns: Without the benefit of expensive equipment, some concessions must be made. This tek provides more than adequate air exchange. Drilling holes in your terrarium to facilitate air exchange screws you on humidity and temperature control, not to mention the introduction of huge amounts of UNFILTERED ROOM AIR into your grow chamber. Pontus (see comment below) recommends the tek at http://www.mushroomvideos.com/Terrarium-Tek. Watch the video and NOTICE that the guy says it will work only if you have an ambient humidity of 50% or more; otherwise, you might have to use SOME KIND OF COOL MIST HUMIDIFIER. I do not live in an area with that kind of constant ambient humidity. The tek also requires large amounts of Perlite.

In short, use your brain. Half the fun is figuring things out for yourself (if you want to be spoon fed like a wee little baby you should consider a different hobby such as making pretty pictures with crayons).  Keep appropriate growth parameters in mind (for example, http://www.shroomery.org/8484/What-are-the-optimum-P-cubensis-growth-parameters) as you browse the wealth of infomation here at the Shroomery. Then decide the best way for you to achieve said parameters. By the way, DO NOT grow P-cubensis or any other species that is illegal in your area. Why? Because it's against the law and you might get kicked out of the Boy Scouts.  I grow only gourmet and medicinal varieties that are 100% legal. Doesn't everyone?

How did you ever work out the airlock thing?
Sounds like you can build a mean bong!
This Hepa box for the AQ Pump is my next project, keep that terrarium beautiful!

can you leave this running or what kind of timing would you have to use will it over saturate the cakes?
Posted by veda_sticks (10/05/08 06:41 AM)
Nice work, seems a little over the top for cakes. For those that live in dry climates it may work for them.

II would change that glass aquarium for a plastic one with holes in it to allow more air exchange. While c02 is heavier than air, it wont all sink to the bottom. c02 wills stay roughly mixed with the rest of gasses in the air. Id still fan that out a few times a day.

Instructions are detailed and work.  I build that thing and was rather disappointed! Look for shotgun fc by ROGER RABBIT and save yourself a lot of money and trouble.
Look here fore something that really WORKS and is much CHEAPER
