A glovebox would be optimal, but in my experience very few contaminant species can actually feed on the cardboard and so I have never had a cardboard contamination. fyi, read carefully ^ when he says keep moist BUT NOT saturated with water, heaps of water makes the cardboard much more susceptible to contamination

Hello there,

i did some experiment with this tek and it's really good. But i had to some modification. When i placed the cardboard in the water to boil for 10min, it becomes oversaturated you have to pull out the cardboard of the water and squeeze out the water or let it dry, whatever....So, what i did is the following :   I put a cardboard layer to the bottom of a small jar. about 0.3cm thick. moist the cardboard a bit. you should make a hole on the lid of the jar stuffed with polyfil for gas exchange. then you put the lid on the jar and put them in the pressure cooker for 10min. i think you can use a pot too. when it cools you are ready to innoculate and you dont have to transfer the cardboard to anywhere. that was working to me very well

this seems to be working for me. i took 3 chunks and put them in the zip lock bags with a 2x2 cardboard square and they are all 3 growing. thanks for postin this tho i use some myc out off a cake.

Bit of a delayed response, but I've done this in open air with no contamination.

I assume that the best method for ANY fungal experament is to use a glove box BUT I was wondering if it was absolutley required for this kind of thing. Could I do it in an open room that I keep pretty clean and pre-sterilize with oust, alcohol, ect. before use?
