I know the last question was posted 1.5 years ago, but anyway, there's probably nothing to worry about if the water heats to 185F for a few minutes. If you're able to bring the temperature back down that quickly, then it wasn't as hot inside the mass of substrate. Also, a nice side effect of using a bag/pillowcase is that you can pull it out for a few seconds (carefully) if you notice the water is getting too hot.

Is it ok to go to 185 degrees F for less than 5 min? This happened to me and I do want to toss all my poo and start over. What does the community think?
