Oxides of chromium are very strong oxidizers which is why they are used in organic synthesis. Cr is toxic. Hydrogen peroxide would provide similar results while being a bit safer. H2O2 is also more available and less expensive. But...H2O2 has one major drawback in that you will need to replace the solution in the bubbler everyday b/c it will eventually decompose to water and oxygen. No big deal.
Don't mess around with chemicals unless you know what you are doing!
