Hi there, I dumbly bought liquid malt extract (for beer making, apparently) called Munich Malt Extract. My intent is to make Malt Extract Agar.  Would someone enlighten me about how much, if any, malt extract powder to fortify with, and then how much agar-agar? Thank you much.

I read in posts that people are referring to different agar plates as t1 or t2. What does this mean???

Warning if you're working with agar. It will burn you badly if overheated in the microwave. I heated solidified agar (750ml) in the microwave for 1 minute but it wasn't fully liquefied so I heated it for a second minute. it was fine, there was a little steam coming off but not much. I grabbed the flask by the top and swirled it and a burst of superhot steam came out and burned my hand very badly. I have an 1&1/2 inch blister on my palm and several more on my fingers. It was the swirling that released the steam. I had some aluminum foil over the top but took it off to microwave it. Just a cautionary tale.

this is agar powder with malt extract in it, could I use this to make agar for my petri dishes?

Clear and to the point. Thanks for the direction. Agar is by far the fool proof way to cultivate. Sik of having contams. Waiting on petri dishes to give this a try.
