this is a great idea!

Actually not a bad idea. However, I might suggest 3% H2O2 instead of alcohol. Yes, yes it will kill spores, but so will alcohol and the H2O2 is consumed (so to speak) when it hits organic matter (grain, sawdust, etc.)

The major flaw in the tek is that alcohol is NOT effective against mold spores. You're taking your nice sterile syringe and sticking it through sponge that's been sitting there collecting contaminants and dispersing them throughout the liquid it's soaked in. Seriously if you're going to do open air inoculations forget the alcohol soaked sponge. You use a clean alcohol wipe to CLEAN the surface of the lid of little bit sof dust and grime which hold large amount of contaminants, and it kills some bacteria in the process. Don't touch the sterile syringe with it!

Am I correct to assume this would not work when using polyfil? Have to ask, in case I'm wrong for some reason.

Make sure your syringe are the sharp type. Flat syringes will give you issues penetrating the sponge. Just fyi.

I just used this method about 2 hours ago to innoculate 2 spawn bags, i first wiped down the injection ports with rubbing alcohol i soaked the sponge in rubbing alcohol like you instructed, i flamed the needed like you instructed, then i stuck the needle into the sponge and through the injection port, and then deposited the spore solution into the bag.  i feel confident that this method prevented my bag from running into any contaminants in the innoculation phase. but just out of curiousity, is this method actually 100 percent fool proof?

Oh so you figured that out by yourself.  See how hard that was?  Btw, I never submitted this here nor even knew it was here.  This post is a link in my signature since I created the tek, along with my lids.

Not to be that guy, but you did neglect to mention what material you used to create the self sealing injection port. Its probably some type of polymer gasket fitting or silicone of some sort.

seriously? never had issues with conams? from what I have read, farting while innoc can ruin your sub/cutlure. intriguing none the less.

I'm about to try inoculating for the first time.  I will use this method. Thanks!

This has helped me with great success in my noobian infancy. I go totally overkill and use this with g.b. too.

Dude, you think outta the box. lol

This is a great new method that I think could help with the margin of error for beginners a whole lot. Personally I do it in a sanitized bathroom and make sure to flame the needle well
