Hey everyone! I've read quite a few questions posted regarding "bringing a cow patty home" that's fruiting (preferably pins) & growing them indoors at your house. I began reading about this here on The Shroomery, & found a lot of miscommunication. I live in south Florida & have done this before just to see if it would work & it did. Although there is no true "season" here because they will always grow within at least 2 consecutive days of rain, I was only able to make a single trip to my closest field this week. So I grabbed a decent few bags of shrooms & stuck a few DIFFERENT patties with some pins on them.
Although this is just my second time doing this, the success rate is even better than the first time. Last time I simply left the patty with pins in a bucket inside of my house & put water on it a few times a day. This worked.
But this time I put them in a bucket with Miracle Gro Potting Soil (regular, not moisture control) under the patties (if for ANYTHING, mainly to absorb water & keep them from moving around in the bottom of the bucket), I also placed a plastic sheet loosely over the top of the bucket this time too. As you have probably guessed by now I don't know a whole lot about growing my own mushrooms, but if you have limited access to your field & come across a patty with pins; I believe you can grow them inside of your house. Today's the 3rd day of growing them inside & they have gotten bigger than the pins of similar size still in the field (I was able to go hunting in the same field again).
Today is Jan 4th & I have been unsure about how much more rain I would get out here, that's why I brought them home (keeps me out of the field too). I basically live on a cow field, connected to one actually. My house overlooks a vast portion of the field that the farmers can't see but there is always a small risk. Timing, camo clothing, & staying in blind spots is what helps keep me safe (desperation, determination, & adrenaline is what fuels me).
I would be more than happy to post this in a different area if needed, & answer anyone's questions to the best of my ability. This site has helped me a lot & I want nothing more than to help anyone wondering about this patty transfer stuff, like I did.
